Give Them A Chance

I really didn't know that a dog could change my life but it happened.  She has taught me so many things, patience, responsibility, unconditional love, gratefulness, joy and my favorite of all don't judge a book by it's cover.  It's so often people come up to me and can't believe that I have a Pit Bull, "those dogs kill don't you know?"  I simply respond, "she kills me with kisses."

They are such a misunderstood breed with a negative reputation.  But it’s the owners who are at fault for this.  Sick people train these dogs to fight and kill for entertainment and money purposes.  In all reality you can train any dog to be aggressive.  A label gets slapped onto the Pit Bull that these dogs are killers.  In a less extreme case, owners often teach these dogs to be aggressive to give them that tough reputation.  Pit Bulls are not for everyone and neither are Chihuahuas or labs, they are high energy, loving, extremely loyal and take the right kind of family to properly train them. 

It all makes me upset because Pit Bulls deserve a chance and deserve a new label.  It’s unfair to judge an entire breed based on a few instances, which can in most cases be traced back to the negligent owner.  As a Pit Bull lover I want to help spread awareness that Pit Bulls are good. Here are a few stories across the board of Pit Bulls doing good in the world. 

Cobain, A Pit Bull who was on a walk with his owner sniffed out and found a distressed elderly women laying in a ditch.  

Titan, A Pit Bull who saved his Owner from dying from a brain aneurysm by alerting and blocking the husband who was about to leave the house.

Peaches, the Pit Bull Therapy dog who went to the Boston Marathon to lift people’s spirits.  

Chako, stepped in after his owner was in harms way by her abusive partner, risking his own life to save the women. 

Lastly I want to share the story of the Pit Bull, Tank who, with another dog saved a girl from drowning. 

One common theme is loyalty.  These dogs are so loving and devoted that they would do anything for anyone.  The next time you think about a Pit Bull think of them as loyal, hilarious, heroic, loving, snuggler’s, people pleasers, athletic, kissers, misunderstood, great with kids and trusting. And who doesn't love a dog that smiles? :)

Maybe you’ll even think of rescuing a Pit Bull yourself. :) She may be lucky for getting another chance but I'm the lucky one because she has forever changed me for the better. I know that sounds cheesy but there hasn't been a day that she hasn't made me smile.  I can't imagine owning another kind of dog, especially because there are so many just waiting for a happy home and a second chance.

Happy One Year Anniversary Dragon

 

A year ago on Saturday Phil and I added the newest member to our lil family and of course we celebrated.  We have no idea actually how old she is so we decided to make this her "birthday."  We do know she is around 1 and half in human years.  It was an exciting day.  Dragon and I started the morning with a run along the river.  It was our first outdoor run of 2014, so we were both really happy to get outside. Dragon did a lot better than I did as I was huffing and puffing about 3 minutes in but she kept me going.  

The rest of the afternoon Dragon spent it with Phil while I was having a girls lunch with my friend down in Indy.  I can't really say what they did but I think it had some lounging around, cleaning and vodka involved. Either way it was bonding time while Mom was out for the day.  

When I got back home I made Pork Chops, Thyme Potatoes, and Lemon Asparagus.  While that was cooking I whipped up a Carrot Peanut Butter Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting and homemade Sweet Potato Bones for Dragon and Mouse.  I have to say this is the first time I have made a dog cake and for just doing it last minute it came out pretty flippin good if I do say so! 

We attempted to put her princess hat on but she was of course being a diva and didn't want anything to do with it.  We brought her cake out and sat her at the table.  She would not look at the cake.  I swear she thought it was a trap because she knows she isn't supposed to eat at the table.  We were cracking up.   My girl is smart and wasn't fallin for it.  So after our photo shoot we put the cake on the floor and Mouse and Dragon had at it.   I had to take it away from them because they were straight up inhaling it.  I didn't want to be up all night with sick pups.  This recipe is pup-approved.

I'll never forget the day we first saw Dragon or Zara as they called her at the Kennel.  She was the prettiest thing I had ever seen.  We left that day with no dog until I begged and begged Phil that this dog would be perfect for us.  We went back on February 22, 2013 and officially adopted her. :)

Sure, Dragon didn't make it easy for us in the beginning and if you are new to these parts then you should probably catch up here.  But after finally learning to trust us and with a lot of hard work she has become the best dog we could ask for.  We love you so much Dragon! 

What I Am Currently Loving

Whelp I am back from another week in the Caribbean and I’ll be honest, I am not happy about it.  I am happy to be back in the blog land though because I missed everyone.  A week without a phone and social media has got my lil butt way behind on what is going on in everyone’s lives.  And if you know anything about me I’m in bed before 8:30.  I’m pretty sure on Monday night I crawled into bed around 7:15pm from pure exhaustion.  I plan to catch up this weekend so if you see me leaving a million comments just don’t be creeped out. 

On top of everything I’m having those winter blues.  I’m way over winter and it’s not even the end of January.  This is not good my friends.  Fort Wayne, which is where my office is located, is on the Top Ten List of Coldest Cities in America.  I’m not okay with this.  To think 4 days ago I was in a bikini turning into an over-cooked tomato. 

Side Note:  Back in college, tanning was the best thing ever and actually looked good.  Now it’s all splotchy, tight, gross and I feel like a snake shedding its skin.  Nobody told me that once you hit 24 everything goes downhill.   As much as I love being kissed by the sun I think in the future more sunscreen is necessary.  Can’t believe I just wrote those words. 

So naturally I haven’t recapped about the cruise or even recap on my Christmas vacation.  I am not off to a good start this year.  I’ll get there.

But I have been wasting my time on Pinterest.  As much as I have been on that thing these past couple of days I could of had like 10 posts by now.   Priorities, Meghan!   I go through Pinterest phases.  Right now I’m on a Pinterest high.  My name is Meghan and I am addicted to Pinterest.  It has been 2 hours since my last pin.  

I can't seem to stop pinning craft ideas.  I've been begging the bf to bring me home a wood pallet from his office but I think I will be making that my weekend project to paint it.  I love the idea of using that in my entry way.  That peach head band would have been so flippin useful while on the cruise for those flyways.  Anyways hopefully I will have some craft or DIY project to share with you next Monday! Craft Board

I love dogs period.  Recently though I've become obsessed with Pitbull puppies.  I admit, I used to be afraid of them because society gives them such a bad name.  The problem with these dogs is that they often get interbred.  Mom getting action with the grandpa.  It's just not right.  Of course the animal is going to be straight up fucked up.  Or they can be selectively breed to be fighting dogs and have aggressive traits. I love Pitbulls because they are loyal, frigging hilarious (I swear I laugh at my Dragon 24-7), they are beaming with personality,  love love people (my dog will lick anyone all day if she could), the best snuggle buddies, super playful, require minimal grooming, and I mean I could go on and on. One of my goals for this year is to get involved more with Pitbulls, and spreading positive awareness.  I guess I am doing that in this post. Wahoo, good job Meghan. I don't think the boyfriend will let us get another puppy at the moment but in the future I will for sure be getting another Pitbull.   Puppy Board 

Lastly I just can't get enough of looking at things to do with the house.  We are slowly and surly making some progress but we have got a long way my friends.  I don't know if you can tell but I am currently obsessed and loving all things gray. I do like adding in punches of color but all in all gray is my go to.   All About the Home Board
